Injection molding, also known as injection moulding, is a method of forming. The advantages of injection molding are fast and efficient production, automatic operation, a wide variety of colors, shapes from simple to complex, sizes from large to small, and accurate product sizes, easy to update products, and the ability to form very complex shaped parts. injection molding is suitable for mass production and manufacturing complex shaped products.
During injection molding, the molten resin is stirred by a screw at a certain temperature, and injected into the mold cavity at high pressure ,then cooled and cured to obtain a molded part. This method is suitable for the mass production of complex shaped parts and is one of the important processing methods in the manufacturing industry.
The injection molding process includes the preparation before molding, the injection process and the post-treatment of the molded part.
The most important factors in the injection moulding process conditions are temperature, pressure and time.
The main temperatures that need to be controlled in the injection moulding process are the barrel temperature, the nozzle temperature and the mould temperature.
1) Barrel temperature
The selection of barrel temperature is related to the variety and characteristics of the plastic. If the barrel temperature is too low, plasticization will not be sufficient; if the barrel temperature is too high, the plastic may be overheated and decomposed. The temperature distribution of the material is generally based on the principle of higher front end and lower back end, i.e. low temperature at the back end of the barrel and high temperature at the front end near the nozzle to prevent degradation of the plastic due to shear friction heat.
2) Nozzle temperature
The nozzle temperature is generally slightly lower than the maximum temperature of the barrel to prevent the melt from salivating at the nozzle due to high temperature.
3) Mould temperature
The mould temperature has a great influence on the flow of the melt, the cooling rate and the performance of the molded part. The temperature of the mould depends on the crystallinity of the plastic, the size and the performance of the molded part, mold structure, performance requirements and other process conditions (such as melt temperature, injection speed and injection pressure).
Plasticizing pressure, known as back pressure, is the pressure on the melt at the head of the screw when the screw is rotating backwards. Injection pressure is the pressure exerted by the plunger or screw head on the plastic melt. The value of the injection pressure depends on the plastic variety, the type of injection machine, the mould structure, the wall thickness of the plastic part and other process conditions.
Injection moulding is an excellent method for the mass production of plastic parts and products. It is easy to see that the world's top high-tech companies use injection moulding to produce parts for their products. What is it about injection moulding that makes it so popular?
Here we list some of its greatest advantages.
